As the sun steadily dipped behind the derelict warehouses that are decorated with scaffolding, our party of four were sat across the canal at the old King’s Cross filling station currently occupied by a pop up restaurant called Shrimpy’s. This wasn’t my first visit and it certainly won’t be my last.
I have been raving about Shrimpy’s soft shell crab burger since my introduction to it in May. Evidently the dish is in high demand as the restaurant had already sold out (86’d in restaurant terms) by 7pm. Let me admit that I wanted to throw a tantrum, not because I’m a brat but because I desperately wanted to reacquaint myself to the crispy, yet soft sea critter that is housed between two slightly buttered buns smeared in its spicy dressing.
Instead I opted for a simple grilled sea bream while my friends enjoyed the seared ahi and fried chicken entrees. We all enjoyed our dinner immensely, aided by a delightful bottle of rosé and a very friendly waitress who was both attentive and charming.
Shrimpy’s may have just become my favorite restaurant for satisfying food in an outdoor setting. If you are lucky enough to be in London during our recent lucky stretch of beautiful weather be sure to pay a visit to this pop up before it closes its doors in 2014.
